Mentoring at the Rock houseThe word Mentor is defined in the dictionary as a trusted counselor or guide.  At the Rock House our mentors are background checked, interviewed adults who volunteer their time and experience with teens to support, offer friendship, guidance, and provide an additional caring relationship for the kids.  Mentoring includes many activities such as recreation, education, life skills, arts, community service and just plain fun.  The relationship of a mentee and mentor has proven to have positive results in the life of youth.

Mentoring supports families and communities by helping kids.

A mentor is a friend to a child that has many long term benefits.

Free Tutoring

A Private Teacher

At the Rock House our tutoring program is one on one with students.  There are 7 different ways of learning.  Not all kids learn alike.  Not all teachers can present in 7 different ways all day long.  When we work one on one with a student we can find out the way they learn and tap into that learning style.

Tutoring at the Rick HouseIt is proven that if students are proficient in reading they will do better in all classes as well as in life. The Rock House had one student who was dyslexic; she could not even write her name or read letters.  Our Rock House reading specialist helped this young lady to read at a second grade level within six months, continuing to show improvement afterward.

Education is associated with success.  Our goal is to help these students to be the best they can be, graduate from high school and continue on to higher education if that is their desire.

Mentoring at the Rock houseThe Rock House is fortunate to have well educated tutors to instruct our teens in English, History, Science and Spanish. We have a Math tutor who teaches to college calculus level 3 and a Reading and Spelling specialist who currently teaches teachers how to teach reading and spelling.
One student said that he would have flunked out of school last fall if it hadn’t been for his tutor.  This student passed and continued on at his grade level.
